Periodontal Scaling and Root Planing

Periodontal scaling and root planing is performed when a patient has irreversible bone loss due to inflammation and infection of the gum and gingival tissues. This deep cleaning prevents and slows additional bone loss to maintain the patient’s dentition and oral health. Not all patients need this, it is only for those diagnosed with periodontal disease.
